Barcelona is apparently planning to use money from their future Nike sponsorship contract to make a significant summer move for Erling Haaland of Manchester City. With barely €20 million in net summer spending and a €64 million profit over the course of the 2023–2024 transfer windows, the Catalan club has found it difficult to compete financially with Europe’s elite teams in recent transfer windows.
But according to a recent Mundo Deportivo story, Barcelona is almost done settling on a big new contract with Nike that will greatly increase their transfer budget. Their present deal, which is scheduled to expire in 2028, will be extended by this arrangement, which is expected to be officially signed soon. The annual renewal bonus would likely exceed €100 million.
Barcelona president Joan Laporta has also announced that the club will be allowed to operate under La Liga’s 1:1 financial regulation by January, enabling them to sign and register players more freely. While Laporta has expressed contentment with the existing group, sources from Spain imply that his eyes are set on a blockbuster acquisition for the next summer window, with Haaland as the primary target.
The Norwegian striker, who has hit an astonishing 101 goals in 107 games for Manchester City since his 2022 debut, is said to be seeking a new challenge. If Haaland leaves City, he is supposedly most drawn to a move to Barcelona, maybe as a result of the team’s financial fair play probe. Because of this, Barcelona would be Haaland’s perfect travel location positioning him as the long-term successor to Robert Lewandowski.
The potential acquisition of Haaland could send shockwaves through the 2025 transfer market, marking a significant statement of intent from Barcelona as they look to regain their position among Europe’s elite clubs.
