Alabama’s hiring has taken off this summer, with 14 of its 22 verbal commitments coming since June 1st. This surge has changed their recruiting environment, from having no 5-star commitments less than a month ago—a source of concern for some fans—to boasting five of the nation’s top prospects. Quarterback Keelon Russell, wide receiver Caleb Cunningham, offensive lineman Ty Haywood and Michael Carroll, and cornerback Dijon Lee all have 5-star ratings from at least one major recruiting service. According to the On3 Industry ranking, these five outstanding recruits give Alabama the most 5-stars and the top recruiting class.
In the past, it was unclear when Alabama’s Kalen DeBoer would win his first 5-star commitment. That uncertainty has been eliminated by the Tide’s tremendous recruitment spree. Haywood is the top commitment, with 5-star ratings from both On3 and 247Sports and a steady ranking among the top 21 players overall. Cunningham is currently rated 5 stars solely on 247Sports, but he is highly regarded overall. Lee, a top cornerback, is highly rated by multiple sites, including a 5-star rating from 247Sports. Russell, who committed in early June, recently acquired a 5-star rating and is regarded as a top quarterback prospect. Michael Carroll’s rankings vary greatly, ranging from unranked nationally by ESPN to a 5-star by On3, indicating a growing appreciation for his talent.
