Breaking: Miami Hurricanes confirm 4-star commitment

The Miami football program faces an uphill battle ahead of the September 21 commitment announcement from four-star American Heritage running back Byron Louis, with Florida State currently leading the race according to 247Sports and On3. On3’s Recruiting Prediction Machine gives Florida State a 91.7% chance of securing Louis’ commitment, while Miami lags with just a 3.6% chance, and Georgia follows at 1.7%. Wisconsin is also in the mix but has less than a 3% chance. Louis visited Miami, Wisconsin, Georgia, and Florida State officially in June, with Miami receiving the most visits overall—nine in total.

Louis had an impressive junior year in 2023, rushing for 1,224 yards and 18 touchdowns, averaging 7.7 yards per carry. Over his high school career, he has accumulated 1,849 rushing yards and 31 touchdowns, including 11 as a sophomore in 2024. Louis follows in the footsteps of Miami sophomore RB Mark Fletcher, who also played at American Heritage.

In the 2025 class, Miami has secured a commitment from four-star Seffner, Armwood prospect Girard Pringle Jr. and might only sign one RB, as all the current RBs on Miami’s roster have eligibility extending beyond 2024. Four of these players have at least three years of eligibility remaining. Miami’s 2025 class is currently ranked 10th in the 247Sports composite rankings, and while Louis would be a significant addition, the Hurricanes are still in a strong position for other top recruits.

The Miami football team enters its 2024 season opener at Florida as the 19th-ranked team in both the Associated Press Top 25 and the USA Today Coaches Poll. The all-time series between Miami and Florida is tied at 14 wins each, with Miami having won 12 of the 21 games played in Gainesville. Miami holds a 5-1 record as a ranked team in Gainesville and a 3-1 record when ranked against an unranked Florida team.
