BREAKING: Major Change Rocks Miami’s Roster Plans. Miami Faces Unexpected Challenge in Transfer Portal

The Miami Hurricanes seemed poised for a national championship run throughout much of the 2024 college football season but ultimately fell short of their lofty aspirations. Despite a solid 10-2 record, their losses to Syracuse and Georgia Tech left them just outside the first-ever 12-team College Football Playoff. They finished 6-2 in ACC play, landing third in the conference behind SMU and Clemson, and ended the season ranked No. 13 nationally.

Adding to the Hurricanes’ challenges, standout offensive tackle Zion Nelson entered the NCAA transfer portal on Tuesday, opting to explore other opportunities with one year of eligibility remaining. Nelson, originally a three-star prospect in the 2019 recruiting class, had been a key piece of Miami’s roster after choosing the Hurricanes over offers from programs like Appalachian State and Coastal Carolina.

Miami now shifts focus to the Pop-Tarts Bowl, where they will face the 10-3 Iowa State Cyclones on Dec. 28. Entering the matchup as 3.5-point favorites, the Hurricanes hope to cap off the season on a high note despite recent setbacks.
