BREAKING: Chelsea’s transfer target reveals that a ‘higher power’ was behind the collapse of his summer move

Omorodion believes a heavenly force was behind his aborted transfer to Chelsea during the summer transfer window. In June, it was reported that Chelsea had made the 20-year-old forward their top priority for a new attacking acquisition. In July, Atletico Madrid rejected Chelsea’s £42 million proposal for the budding sensation.

By August, it was revealed that Omorodion had reservations about joining Chelsea, largely due to a disagreement over image rights. Instead, the young striker opted for a move to Porto, where he has made an electric start, scoring seven goals in his first seven games for the Portuguese side.

Reflecting on the failed Chelsea move, Omorodion told RTVE that he now believes there was a higher purpose behind the decision. “It was a tough summer. Everyone knew how close I was to signing, but if it didn’t happen, it’s because God didn’t want it to. I’m incredibly grateful to Porto for giving me an opportunity when things were uncertain, and I’m really happy with where I am now.

Omorodion is currently moving on from the past, concentrating on his current career, which includes two goals against Manchester United in an exciting 3-3 Europa League match earlier this month. The Spanish international, who has represented Spain at the U21 and U23 levels and helped secure a gold medal at the Paris Olympics this summer, began his career with Granada before joining Atletico Madrid in 2023. His impressive loan spell at Alaves last season aroused Chelsea’s interest, but he eventually settled in with Porto.
