Malachi Toney, the 2026 four-star wide receiver commit for the Miami Hurricanes, has reclassified to the 2025 class, it was revealed on Tuesday. Toney is ranked No. 240 overall and No. 38 at his position by the On3 Industry Ranking. Miami’s pursuit of elite receivers in the next recruiting class is consistent with this reclassification. Toney has remained faithful to Miami despite interest from top colleges like Florida State and Alabama, who are aggressively attempting to flip him. Toney made the unexpected decision to commit to the Hurricanes more than a year ago.

Toney intends to return to Hard Rock Stadium this season, though no dates have been announced yet. He was present during Miami’s home opener vs Florida A&M. “I was informed by Coach Kevin Beard that was their plan, so i expected it,” Toney said after Miami’s win. Standing at 5-foot-9 and 165 pounds, Toney has been a priority recruit for Miami in the 2026 class, thanks to his strong relationship with Beard and head coach Mario Cristobal. Toney is likely to sign in December and enroll in summer 2025.

Today, Miami has two four-star receiver commits in the 2025 class: Daylyn Upshaw and Taylor, following his reclassification. Following his switch to the 2025 cycle, Toney’s ranking is anticipated to alter. Seeking to make it three straight top-10 recruiting classes under Cristobal, Miami’s 2025 class is currently ranked No. 13 nationally with 22 total commits.

This weekend’s Miami home opener against Florida A&M will also be watched by 6-foot-5, 310-pound offensive lineman Javarii Luckas of 2026 Glades Central (Fla.). After watching the Canes play again and touring the campus, Luckas, who was in Gainesville for the Miami-Florida game recently, expressed excitement.
