“Aston Villa at Risk of Losing Key Talent Ahead of Crucial Transfer Deadline

Aston Villa are set to ensure Rory Wilson’s future with a new and improved deal, although the highly-rated striker is yet to sign new terms. Villa is said to have made several five-year contract offers to Wilson, who has less than a year left on his current contract. The 18-year-old joined Villa from Rangers in the summer of 2022 and is considered one of the club’s most promising young players.

He scored 51 goals as a kid for the Scottish giants before moving south of the line. Wilson subsequently scored 15 goals for Villa’s under-18s and under-21s in 2022/23, before adding another 19 last season. He also earned his Scotland under-21 debut in October of last year, having previously impressed for his country at a younger age. Wilson has plenty of interest, with at least 15 clubs reportedly keeping an eye on his future. If Villa fail to secure him a new deal and he joins a foreign club, they will receive a minor compensation sum.

Villa is entitled to €270,000 if he is signed by a foreign category one academy team, paid in three €90,000 payments. A category 2 academy club would pay a total of €160,000. Wilson’s contract expires next summer, and clubs will be allowed to negotiate terms with him beginning January 1, four days before he turns 19. If Wilson leaves, Villa will receive significantly less than they spent for him two years ago.

He has yet to make his senior debut and was not included in Unai Emery’s first-team preseason earlier this summer.
